As we mentioned in yesterday’s news round-up, 7-Elevens have turned into Kwik-E-Marts for the next month to promote the new Simpsons movie (out July 27). The show has held a cross-generational appeal since it debuted in 1990. Families watched it together. Bart’s “Underachiever” and “Don’t have a cow, man” T-shirts were all the rage. Somehow (clever writing, perhaps?) it has held on. Today’s youth are still avid fans, and the audience for the movie will likely be a solid mix of boomers, Gen X and Gen Y.
Intern Marc (who once spoke in Homer quotes for a whole day) stopped in the one on 42nd St. yesterday to meet Apu. He was sorely disappointed, but perked up when he had a squishee…mmm…..squishee.
Who needs a Kwik-E-Mart? I doooooooooooo!
Do you remember what it was like to run into Disneyland for the first time and give Mickey a hug? Well going to the Kwik-E-Mart felt like that for me, until I toppled over a 2-D
cut out of Apu. (He lied to us through song! I HATE when people do that!)
But the good feelings returned after a super all-syrup Squishee that sent me on a trip. Jasper was locked in the freezer, Ralph was dripping his popsicle everywhere, Comic Book Guy was reading Radioactive Man (Special Edition issue #171) and they even hired an Indian guy to work at the…actually, wait, maybe that wasn’t deliberate.
I got a six-pack of Buzz Cola while I was there. They were out of Krusty-O’s.

Well I should probably get back to work while I’m still hopped up on caffeine and sugar…D’oh! Nuts…mmm…Doughnuts….
