It’s no secret that the Harry Potter franchise is popular among youth. REALLY popular. The six books published to date (almost seven!) have together sold more than 325 million copies and have been translated into more than 63 languages. Like the Simpsons, its cleverness has attracted fans from all generations and has entrenched it in popular culture the world over. The mythology of the young Harry and his adventures at Hogwarts have enchanted readers from Tulsa to Taipei.
When a new Harry Potter movie comes out, so do the diehard Potheads. The fifth movie, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” premiered at midnight last night, so we sent intern Marc to document the occasion. He included pictures of everyone but himself. Luckily our spy sent us a picture of Marc (right), who apparently dressed in character for the occasion. Here’s his recap from the front lines:

Only the true Harry Potter fans are a little groggy at work today. NGT made me go to the Harry Potter premiere last night (OK fine…I volunteered to go weeks ago).
The line started forming outside the Time Square Regal Cinemas at about 6. I went to talk to the guy that was first in line and he had a Death Eater tattoo (right)! I really hope that’s legit because he made my day. The girl next to me was heading out to London for the book premiere next week. Two guys on the other side obviously should have been somewhere else as they were cramming for the bar exam in line.
The books are truly a global sensation. This kid (left) is from China and he’s been a loyal reader since the first one. It says “I solemnly swear that I’m up to no good” on his shirt.
Overall I thought the movie was great. The director, David Yates, is new this time, and he stumbled a little in the beginning. The first 20 minutes seemed only to highlight his directing style, but it smoothed out:
Great villains, Harry’s big kiss (the kids are growing up, aren’t they?) and a great battle in the end.
On my way home, a drunk in the subway was waving around a broken beer bottle. If only I’d mastered that Expeliarmus spell…

Harry Potter was an experience shared by multiple people in the FH Austin office–we saw it in 3D at the IMAX, and had purchased our tickets over a month in advance. Best of all, we were on the news for getting there 5 hours before the movie began AND because we brought our fried “Harry Potter and the MANGO of Secrets”–a mango I painted as part of a new business effort for the National Mango Board. We found out today that we won the account!!
Here’s the link to the video, so you can see Harry Potter and the MANGO of Secrets for yourself: http://keyetv.com/video/?id=13992@keye.dayport.com
