Google in Talks With Carriers Over GPhone [WSJ]
The online media giant is working to secure deals with Verizon and Sprint over the introduction of its highly-anticipated mobile operating system, which will likely spur third-party mobile development and advertising opportunities. Google is expected to officially announce its GPhone project within the next two weeks.

Pacifying Privacy Concerns, AOL To Debut Do-Not-Track List [NYT]
In a bid to prevent internet privacy regulations by the FTC, AOL will announce a new program allowing users to opt-out of online tracking services that sell their activity information to marketers. Yet AOL will use the program’s sign-up process as an opportunity to sway users from joining it, citing Netflix, Amazon, and other sites that make useful product recommendations as reasons for consumers to support the status quo.

Social Networkers More Likely to Use Mobile Features, Report Finds [AdWeek]
MySpace and Facebook users are more than three times as likely to download music or video on their mobile devices than individuals who don’t visit those sites, according to a report by Ipsos Insight. Social network users are also twice as likely to send a text message than their off-network counterparts.

Nintendo Tops Sony as Gaming Leader [MCV]
Revenue for Nintendo’s DS and Wii consoles overcame combined returns from Sony’s PS2, PS3, P2P in the third quarter, according to iSuppli. Despite media fanfare, profits for Microsoft’s Xbox and Xbox 360 remained a distant third.

TV Networks Consider Restructuring Schedules in Wake of DVR [WSJ]
Increased DVR use is challenging networks to rethink their longtime practice of stacking their top shows against one another, as TV execs work to find ways to recapture fading live audiences. While the DVR is raising audience totals in general, only 34% of its users—many of whom are TV’s most upscale viewers—actually watch recorded ads.

ESPN To Simulcast NBA Games Online [MediaPost]
ESPN360.com will allow users with participating broadband carriers to stream every NBA game carried on ESPN or ESPN2—including the playoffs—for free on their computers.

MSN Goes Green  [MediaWeek]
The new MSN Green portal will aggregate eco-related content from MSNBC, Hearst Magazines, and a host of smaller blogs. The site is the latest in a growing list of green sites, which already include Yahoo! Green and Sprig.com from Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive.
