Messaging 2.0

Suffering from TMI (Text Message Injury)? Check out the lastest applications that help ease your sore thumb…

- The folks behind Pinger must be like us– averaging 10 unheard messages at a time. This app allows you to instantly send voice messages with the ease of a text, but sans typing. A person can call Pinger, leave a message for a person or group, who will then receive a text notification. They can call the number in the text to listen to your message.

- Voicemail to text message mobile services such as SpinVox, Jott and Simulscribe go one step further for the consumer. First gaining popularity in Europe and now picking up in the U.S., these types of services convert voicemails to text messages which are automatically sent to the handset. Thus consumers can instantly see who called and what they said.

- Similarly, consumers using 3G handsets have the capability, through services provided by DoCoMo in Japan, to leave video voicemails (videomail). This service can hold up to 20 messages for 72 hours.

- The newest voice apps are combining SNS functionalities, like Snapvine. With the snapvine VoicePlayer and a mobile phone, you can leave voice messages on profile pages, like audible comments. By adding this extra dimension to SNS, Snapvine is attempting to bring people out from behind their profiles.
