Hearst TV Kicks Off High School Playbook on 3 Platforms [MediaPost]
Hearst-Argyle Television has brought high school sports to TV and now they’re bringing them to the web and mobile. Highschoolplaybook.com is a new fully integrated social networking site for high school athletes that includes music, stats, video, athlete profiles and even game day weather.

Young shun MySpace for Bebo and Facebook [Telegraph]
MySpace lost much of its youth base in the UK after it “sold out” to News Corp. Now Bebo has overtaken has surplanted it as the most popular social network, and Facebook is nipping at its heels.

MTV Networks Sees Video Games As Tie-In With TV [MediaPost]
Citing growth and record traffic, MTV announced plans to sink $500 million into its video games businesses, which include Nickarcade, Neopets, AddictingGames, Game Trailers, and Shockwave (now mobile thanks to a deal with Nokia).

Gaming Surpasses Video, Social Nets In Online Popularity [MediaPost]
While both social networking and video streaming are on the rise, the most popular online activity remains gaming with over 1/3 of U.S. adult Internet users playing weekly.

Sites like Yahoo Games and EA’s Pogo.com offer users access to a wealth of ad-supported games, where sponsors have options for branding opportunities, and display and banner ad placements. Some casual game sites offer low cost, ad-free gaming subscriptions and outright purchases, as new revenue models like micro-payments gain traction.

A new study showed detailed stats for online videos: YouTube (obviously) led the pack with 16% of traffic. The demographic split 50/50 between men and women but it’s interesting to note that 40% of watchers were over 45.

The Facebook application insanity continues! The “Where I’ve Been” app, which highlights all the places a user has traveled to, was just bought by Trip Advisor for $3 Million.

Dell, Admitting Managers Inflated Sales Reports, Will Restate Income [NYT]
The senior management at Dell, hoping desperately to hit all of its sales goals, falsified their quarterly returns for 4 years. They are now in the process of restating their returns from 2003-2006. Google To Increase Investment in China [TechCrunch]
Google can’t compete with Chinese search engines like Baidu.com, so they’re just going to buy them out: Google announced that it will acquire “one or two Chinese internet companies” and invest in 5 more in the next year. Related: Google to acquire, invest in more Chinese companies [WashingtonPost]

Wii-style controller to hit PS2 [MVCUK]
In2Games plans to unveil a motion sensor controller for use with Sony’s PS2 on sports games like tennis, bowling, and golf. Wii think that sounds familiar.
