Mobile Ads on the Rise [AdWeek]
1 in 3 U.S. mobile users—approximately 78 million people—have seen or heard advertising on their handsets in the last three months, according to a report by Limbo and GFK/NOP Research. The study also found that SMS continues to be the dominant media for mobile ads and that men and minorities are more likely than others to recall them.

NBC Universal and Paramount—the last two major studios backing HD DVD format—have opened the door to a possible switch to Blu-ray technology.

Americans Turn to Online Videos [BBC]
The ongoing writers strike is boosting online video sites like YouTube, which has seen its audience jump 18% in the last two months. Crackle, another video sharing site, has seen its audience double from 1.2 million users to 2.4 million in November and December.

The social networking site launches MySpace Celebrity with over 300 celeb profiles, which each include original blogs, interviews and video footage.

Users to Have Big Role in Web Ad Play, Report Finds [Mediaweek]
Local online advertising is beginning to focus more intently on user reviews and other forms of UGC. According to a report by The Kelsey Group, local businesses will begin to interact more directly with users who frequently write reviews or make comments on local sites.

One Quarter of Teens Are Super Communicators [MediaPost]
Among other findings, 64% of teens aged 12-17 say they have participated in content-creating activities online, while 47% say they have posted pictures in public spaces online, according to a Pew survey. Girls continue to dominate UGC, including blogging, and picture and video posting.

Absolut Tunes Up Online Music Machines [AdWeek]
The spirits company will launch absolutmachines.com, a site where users can instruct multi-instrument devices to play music, and then share the video and audio results with others.
