Launch of Mobile Content Community YuuZoo
February 6th, 2008 by Allison
There has been a lot of complaining about mobile content. Much of it is not well-organized, compelling, compatible…
A new mobile site called YuuZoo, a client of our parent group FH Youth and Mobile, aims to tackle these issues. With plenty of content, YuuZoo is looking to be one-stop shopping for on-the-go entertainment. They are taking a something-for-everyone approach, having partnered with over a hundred content developers around the world. The site offers everything from Ford Models giving bra advice to sumo wrestler java games to videoringers from The Teenagers. It all seems a bit overwhelming actually.
But it’s not, and this is what seems to be the real draw of YuuZoo. Like Amazon, TiVo and Netflix, it has recommendation software that will narrow down the expansive selection to your profile and preferences. This is a vast improvement over existing navigation interfaces where good content can get buried beneath mounds of “Crank That” ringtones.
With over 150 carrier partners around the world, the site touts an initial base of over 1 billion potential subscribers in Asia, Europe and the US. So compatibility is not an issue. Some could argue that cost might be, especially for the Napster generation used to getting stuff for free. Like many of the carrier decks, YuuZoo acts like a cable network, allowing users to subscribe to channels such as sports, entertainment, games, and music. Users can also buy content on a per-download basis. But their model definitely opens up the breadth of content available. Most people, even teens, would prefer quality at a small cost over crap for free. Users can also preview before purchase, which few other sites currently offer. That is pretty key–would you plunk down $11 bucks for a movie without having at least seen a trailer?
They are also working on a really cool application that would let users text for free. This mobile client, which will be available the third week of this month, acts like a “Skype of mobile messaging,” letting users send (even large) multimedia messages to one another. Embedded ads in the service would allow for some serious targeting, showing users only ads that are relevant to them.
