Hong Kong’s “Delay No Mall”

by NGT

A popular new mall has opened in Hong Kong that is a showcase of young, innovative thinking. Called Delay No Mall, it is located in Causeway Bay, the bustling central business district of Hong Kong. The mall covers two floors, carries close to 50 of the world’s coolest brands, and features a bar, a cafe, sleep pods, even a tattoo parlor.

“It’s really cool there. It’s not the merchandise that makes it cool, it’s the atmosphere, it seems that everyone is going there now. Some of my classmates even got their tattoos there, its hip,” said Nelson, a 20 year old student.

Benjamin Lau, the co-founder of the mall once explained the name he gave it by saying “It means to do the things you want to do right here and now. To play right now, to create right now, be active right now…it means no more delay.” Tony, a 22-year-old, agrees with the underlined message this mall brings to young people. “It is super. It urges us to do things just now. It is full of concepts just like us!”

Indeed, Delay No Mall has lots of concepts, and it is not afraid to push the boundaries. Its ad feature trendy young people in the MTR, Hong Kong’s metro system, enjoying a “rush hour picnic” while shouting at friends, “No more delay, enjoy right now!” The concept in the ads seems absurd, but they do reflect the mentality of teenagers nowadays.

Delay No Mall sells Italian furniture and famous designer jeans like Galliano and Just Cavalli. You can also find pet robots, or anything else that is new or a ‘pop up’ concept. Delay No Mall is not just an investment of a billion Hong Kong dollars, as Lau said, “It’s always changing, it’s the youth culture, you cannot find it anywhere else.”
