Personal Picks: Bike Hero, Twitemperature, I’m Just Sayin Show, Web Wunderhammern…

Every Friday, we each share something we deem worthy of a mouse click.

Bike Hero
Some kid cranks out Guitar Hero on his bike handlebars while riding over colored markers on the road. Is this an ad sponsored by Guitar Hero or just some really obsessive kid? Either way, it’s pretty incredible.

Twitemperature
Unlike Mr. Matthews at Download Squad, whose opinion is definitely valid and probably more informed than mine, I actually kind of liked Twitemperature. It’s fair to say that I would immediately like anything that compared me to Neo in “The Matrix,” (just the first one, thank you) but it’s still a cool idea. Don’t all check out my Twitter page at once, it’s still pretty crappy. However, someone out there heard my Mulholland Drive and Hot Chip shout outs and I’ll take it if it makes me … The One.

Life Magazine Archives Meet Google Images
Awesome news alert: Google has made over 10M photos from Life magazine’s (R.I.P.) archives accessible for free. This means rarely seen images of this era’s most important people, places and events can be uncovered by simply typing “source:Life” in Google Images. From the Great Depression to vintage Britney Spears, this new resource is fast becoming my latest web addiction.

“When you don’t want to be Facebook friends”
I thought this article was interesting because it brings to light some of the awkwardness that occurs online.  Whether you are getting broken up with via text message or voicemail or being “de-friended” in MySpace or Facebook; the internet and mobile are now providing us more outlets for rejection…

The I’m Just Sayin Show
This new web show from Rex Sorgatz (of Fimoculous.com fame) plays less like Nonsociety and more like Golden Girls (his comparison). Others have called it Diggnation for Girls, though we’re leaning towards “a bite-sized Seinfeld + The View + Real World Season 1 for the ironic tee-toting set.” Its 3-way pop-cultural quipping and smart snark make it an acceptable guilty pleasure. Though I could do without hearing the word “like” a few dozen less times. In the end, I’m curious to see how these social media mavens by trade manage  their own personal brands online.

Blogs as Wunderkammern
I really like the concept presented here, comparing the idea of blogs to 17th Century “Wunderkammern.” Basically a wunderkammern was a cabinet of curiosities that developed in tandem with the Age of European Enlightenment - a place you could store random detritus such rare animal specimens or cultural artifacts. If you think about it, blogs are not all that different, albeit in a digital sense. They’re basically a clearinghouse for the “oddities” of the Internet, organized according to a particular creator’s personal scheme. As we move into the unknown future of the web, it’s interesting to think about blogs in this context, as idea generators and thought provokers creating culture from the bottom up, not just the top down.

Adventuresextraordinaires.fr
This is the updated website for old-school French graffiti artist HNT.  It presents his wild adventures across the continent, a collection of his work for Prada and so much more.  Mighty refreshing to get a new batch of his unique style.

Netflix Now Streams Movies TO The Xbox 360
In an effort to become an all-purpose media center, this week the Xbox 360 introduced Netflix to the gaming console. Users with an Xbox Live and Netflix account can now stream over 10,000 movies instantly through their gaming system. I think the best part about the Netflix integration is that Xbox owners can instantly share Netflix streaming movies with friends on their buddy list and watch together at the same time.

Verizon employees hack Obama records
This is not the first time a celebrity has had their phone hacked (we all remember the teenager who obtained access into Paris Hilton’s contacts on her T-Mobile Sidekick). The apologies to targeted individuals are becoming old. With all the grandiose plans for the Telecomm industry, you would think security would be top priority.

Tripology.com
I always assumed all travel agents were created equal. Turns out, many specialize in specific areas of the world and are more knowledgeable about certain customs and local activities than others. Tripology was created to save you the headache of researching multiple travel agents to find one that will definitely be a fit. You simply go to the website, type in your destination and receive a list of 3 agents that are experts in your location of interest. Now, you’ll be able to rest assured that when you’re bargaining for a great piece of antique jewelry in Thailand you won’t be offending anyone with your thrifty ways!
